KATHERINE BLACKBURNE
Drowned Self
2006
Oil on Linen
60" x 56"
As it happens I'm fascinated and terrified by the very powerful motif of
Death. And I'm interested in using this motif as a vehicle for
discussing human emotion, in particular 'attachment'. Attachment to
one another, to place and memory.

One cannot ignore the obvious and powerful metaphors that are
conjured by using bodily imagery. The body as landscape. The body as
sacred and doomed object among many objects in a cruel world. The body
on canvas as representation of self.
